The brain (central nervous system) and lymph system are like ‘brother and sister’and the extracellular fluid is like the grandfather in their coordinated function for your overall health.
Brain & Lymph Drainage Therapy Techniques
The fluid systems of your body are key for delivery of nutrients and processing of toxins. Your cells are bathed in fluid, your blood circulates fluid, your discs, eyes and cells are full of fluid… and each component has it’s own intelligence & consciousness. The brain & your body can be adversely impacted by:
- Birth trauma & Physical impact: falling, being hit…
- Toxic exposure: cleaning supplies, carbon monoxide
- Emotional trauma & Allergic reactions
Dr Chikly uses an extensive scientific background and an open mind in developing his methods, balancing right brain & left brain approaches. He compared the ability to affect deep tissues to 2 magnets on opposite sides of a window still having an affect on each other.
Brain therapy results have been measured by MRI & the Lymph system helps all other systems function better. He has well over 200 treatment applications including:
- Veterans: affected by bomb blasts
- Parkinsons, lymphedema, car accidents
- Poor concentration, focus & issues of the aging mind
- Jet lag, hang overs, skin health and hundreds of more applications
His extensive experience gives him philosophical privilege to contemplate: Love and treatment, consciousness of tissues, “gourmet” manual therapy, the brain as ‘the Holy of Holies’ and lymph as a tool of personal transformation. (Wow ~ He even made dissection sound romantic in this call! Where do I sign up?)
LOH: Erik Dalton
Karate, judo, rock ‘n’ roll drummer (opening for Janis Joplin), psychology, broken neck (in a halo), rolfing, body / mind, philosophy, physical therapy school, osteopathy, bio-mechanical to functional… In another context he’d mentioned that you can’t teach experience (!) and his experiences lead to:
Myoskeletal Alignment
Erik advised us not to get married (to one idea or another). As a multi-modal pain management system, Myoskeletal Alignment works to keep pace with evolving scientific understanding and allows that to shape the work. Examples on how his thinking has grown:
- When he went to massage school, everything was a muscle issue…
- When he went to Rolfing school, everything was a fascial issue…
- And when he broke his neck, everything became a bony issue.
Then he realized that it all works together and he now places attention on working to the deepest restrictive layer, whether that is superficial or deep. A key treatment aim for Erik is to have an aligned & level sacral base and the eyes level. There are several ways he approaches this aim. He looks for tissue issues to do with:
- Ascending syndromes – affecting the body lower than the issue: ie. TMJ dysfunction affecting the upper back
- Descending syndromes – affecting the body above the issue: ie. low back pain due to a foot problem
- Upper & lower cross syndromes: issues of imbalance such as in our “Flexion Addicted Society”
- Gait, physiology and more…
There are many factors that contribute to pain and the Myoskeletal approach is to facilitate “… proper neural, myofascial and skeletal function.” (From the notes that come with the YouTube video below)

Sacred Lomi can be compared to a mantra and it can be seen as a weaving of energy. Sacred Lomi weaves the waking world and the sleeping world together which allows for a very profound space and comes from the Temple Style Lomi.
Sacred Lomi
The system / form is assistive for the person to connect with themselves. It is more about un-learning things that aren’t very useful anymore so you can be more fully you. Figure 8′s & circular movements are an integral part of the system and is designed to confuse the thinking mind that likes to control & analyze. Your body receives the message that you can let go.
Donna shares that the invitation is to let go on deeper levels than the recipient has ever had and so there needs to be a safer space than the recipient has ever been in.
Tom shares that there aren’t really rules, however there are principles. The training is more about learning about yourself than learning a set of techniques, but it still has structure. Key principles & important considerations include:
- Listening : Whole Being : Now : Love
- Movement : Sound : Breath : Presence
- Trust : Safety : Boundaries : Acceptance
Sacred Lomi is powerful both as a modality, and also for personal development for those who want greater personal healing & awareness.

What is among the highest compliments? I think Ryan said flatulence (!) He also described his passion for massage as spreading like a plague! (… of empowerment for folks and their health!)
Massage Therapy: Massage Nerd
Massage training varies from location to location, but basic training includes: Anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, basic massage techniques, “Swedish Massage.” No matter what techniques are used, Ryan emphasizes that listening to the client is very important.
There can be health consequences from too much stress & relaxation massage can be very beneficial. A few other forms include:
- Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular Therapy: specific aches & pains, trigger points
- Sports Massage / Orthopedic Massage: aches & pains, more medical
- Spa based – often relaxation oriented depending on treatment
- More than muscles: lymph, fascia, digestion
Sometimes your pain can be referring from another location and so treatment beyond the specific complaint is common so as not to miss the cause. These locations are called trigger points, or hyper-irritable spots in the muscles that can refer pain. Some examples include:
- Headaches that come from your neck & shoulders
- Groin pain that can have abdominal origins
- Low back pain that is a referral from your gluteal muscles.
Ryan’s site is a wealth of information and he is mindful of different learning styles: E-books, video, images, techniques…

This graceful modality has been compared to a dance and is considered a Dynamic Art & a Healing Art with origins back to the time of the Buddha.
Thai Yoga Massage
The name ‘Lotus Palm’, Kam Thye’s company, has symbolism in the ‘Lotus’ as a flower representing clarity, beauty, purity & enlightenment and ‘Palm’ is indicating the palming techniques used. The name can therefore be translated to “The Art of Compassionate Touch” for this mindful, respectful and sensitive approach. There are 4 foundations to the technique:
- Meditation
- Stances
- Rhythmic Rock
- Touch Technique
Kam Thye compared the modality to “A Yoga Dream.” It utilizes a ‘deep listening’ to the client’s body and brings them into a yoga pose while focusing on energy lines and working on those energy lines, called sen lines. There are 4 breathing techniques used:
- Mindful Breathing – deep, meditative, present moment
- Synchronized Breathing – respectfully breathing with the client, “dancing with breath”
- Induced Breathing – used to encourage exhale
- Directed Breathing – asking the client to focus on their breath to move them into a deeper pose
Thai Yoga Massage can be considered the physical application of Loving Kindness and is a combination of Buddhism & Yoga.

The Swiss Ski Team went for gold… And You too can use this technique to enhance your life!
Sophro-Ki Sophrology
Sophrology means, “The study of consciousness with the values of existence,” and it’s a series of short mental & physical exercises that can be done anywhere & any time.” And indeed, it is used by not just the Swiss ski team, but by psychologists, police, nurses and everyday people who want a tool to help with:
- Any stressful situation: illness, exams, sports, move, work
- Concentration & focus
- Childbirth, sleep & depression
There are 3 cycles (Reductive, Radical & Existential) in Sophro-Ki with 4 levels per cycle. The 4 attitudes in Sophrology include:
- Being free from judgment
- Looking at life as if it were the first time
- Put beliefs & knowledge in brackets (…) – suspending beliefs
- Repetition – for building neural pathways
Sophrology recognizes that everything is energy and we are solid energy. Discordant energy creates a state of un-health. By ‘noticing’ we are able to anchor happiness and harmonization in our solid energy and that creates health & focus. Also, by noticing, we can uncover choice.
Dorna illustrated the power of our thoughts by sharing a “Tea Bag Exercise” that you can do at home and walked us through a wonderful guided session!
LOH: Dr Leslie Feinberg
You don’t have to know the answers because it through communication with the mind-body that the practitioner will be guided to maximizing your body’s inner communications.
Neuromodulation Technique (NMT): The Feinberg Method
This has everything to do with how the mind-body perceives internal conditions & external challenges. This “Other Than Conscious” intelligence manages trillions of cells & your body processes. There are many reasons someone might benefit from NMT including:
- Chronic degenerative diseases
- Allergic responses & pain perception
There is a communication protocol that involves muscle testing for yes / no responses that uses clinical communication pathway pyramids from general to specific based on the unique mind-body priority. There is a 3 step process:
- Access: Open attitude in good faith & good will
- Assess: Therapeutic dialogue, NMT clinical pathways
- Modulate: Make mind-body aware

Although the precise moves of this gentle and non-invasive technique are very important, the 2-20 minute breaks in between them are equally important!
Bowtech: The Original Bowen Therapy
Useless moves! Ossie & Elaine both joked at this mis-perception. Indeed, it’s almost like nothing could be happening from these little, deliberate moves. However profound changes can be happening for the patient. Some complaints that have been treated include:
- Sport injury or accidents & muscle pain
- Asthma, chronic fatigue, TMJ dysfunction
- Constipation / diarrhea, headaches
- Blocked lymph flow, kidneys
Bowenwork is nationally recognized in Australia with practitioners and teachers around the world. It is a hands on, soft tissue technique that assists the patient, from a whole body point of view, to quickly to move the patient from a state of over-stimulation to one where there can be positive impacts on levels of body, mind & spirit.
There are few contra-indications for this modality and it can even be used for self-care. Bowtech is taught in modules and there are many endorsed classes:
- 1-2 can be used at home by the lay person & is foundational
- 3-7 includes detailed practitioner training
- 8-11 are advanced studies

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. What a great key word to implement easy, peaceful change in life! What a powerful guided process Grant took us through!
ZPoint for Peace
The Z represents a place of balance and a place where everything exists. It encompasses where the Truth lives & both sides of duality. It is beyond emotional upset and Grant and I talked about it as a “tranquil” izer.
Grant shared that the core component of the process is to let the subconscious do the transforming once the process is in place. The process is all about letting go of what isn’t truly you so that the joy or the positive aspects can shine through.
- It’s heart stuff – not mind stuff
- You don’t think it – you know it
- It’s not about the story – it’s not talk therapy… but you feel the story
It’s a program that is read into your subconscious mind to let go of difficult feelings that are triggered. Healing intention that is activated by a special word. Symbols to work on broad areas of upset and not just one emotion at a time.
There can be feeling around:
- A time in life
- A relationship feeling
- A characteristic feeling of a circumstance.
We develop subconscious patterns over time, sometimes early in life & we act can on a ‘secondary gain‘ such as procrastination which puts in conflict with ourselves. ZPoint is a quick and easy protocol about making peace with these parts & letting go of limiting beliefs in order to free ourselves, making this perfect for activating the Law of Attraction. Root beliefs include:
- I dont’ have permission
- If i get “it,” it will cause me more grief than it’s worth
- I don’t deserve it
With our thoughts and emotions so tied together, this gives us the ability to have the fullness of our emotions without self-identifying with any of them or sabotaging ourselves. Also, Grant says that the more we do it, the better it gets: including the positive physical effects of stress reduction.
LOH: Deborah Koff-Chapin
Deborah said it was a Gift From the Universe in discovering Touch Drawing. I feel like I’ve received this to be able to share Touch Drawing out further! It is a fascinating technique that centers around the core of your Being and is expressed through a series of images that flow out of your hands. It is somatic – a felt sense, art or a picture is a byproduct.
Self Exploration, Therapy, Individual and Community
The above are all words that can describe Deborah’s work.
- It isn’t a therapy, but it can be used by therapists
- It can be facilitated one : one, in a group or be a solo exploration
- It can be embraced by anyone, not just artists
Touch Drawing can stand alone as an art and increase the depth that an artist can reach, and yet she has many stories of people with challenges who use it to express and open doors of insight. The magic isn’t in the perfection of the drawing, but in the process of creating and she walked us through a description of what that would look like… the power is in the series of drawings.
The applications are so diverse… we talked about:
- corporate use for hospital administrators or those in health care
- health challenges: physical, mental / emotional… like autism, Parkinson’s, depression, grief
- exploring concepts like nature, lectures and music
Deborah’s mandate is to share the technique and allow it to grow and live through the creative expressions of others. Although she’s written a Facilitator Workbook, there is no ‘teacher certification’ process that she requires. We compared it to parenting and her Center for Touch Drawing to be just that – a Center where people can gather and compare, share and celebrate.
