LOH: Terry Willard

I got way broader information than I dreamed when I decided to lead in with a question of how plants related to his elective course on Mayan Prophecy!

Medicinal Mushrooms, Herbs & Flower Essences

He’s studied with shamans, has a Ph.D., is a Master Herbalist and has an enlightening perspective on plants, fear and making independent, informed choices.

What a gift to be able to consider the wisdom of the plant kingdom:

  • We learned that mushrooms have ancient and developed memory out to 899 generations (but not beyond)
  • Flowers only have positive emotion, even Bleeding Hearts and the scentless ‘essence’ is different from the ‘essential oil’
  • Each plant has a personality that needs to be considered in recommending treatment and approach to health

Herbology can be taken at the most superficial chemical level, or deeper and deeper (or higher and higher) in honor and approach especially considering we are global citizens who have independence and the ability to choose our way of honoring ourselves and others.

Flower essences in particular assist in balancing our emotions which, along with the herbs can help protect us from all that life throws at us from H1N1 to the economy.

It’s amazing to think that plants can help us with everything from feeling overwhelmed to immunity support.

LOH: Thomas Myers

I’m wearing a fascial unitard. There was a little back and forth about this and I’m not sure if he said he wore pantyhose in class or if I just imagined it. Tom is a funny and creative guy and so I wouldn’t put it past him if the cause was to create understanding with his students. After all, the seeds of this therapy started with an anatomy game when he was teaching at the Rolf Institute.

Anatomy Trains, KMI & Spatial Medicine

Once you factor in the influences of Buckminster Fuller, Ida Rolf and Moshe Feldenkrais, you pretty much have to add it up to “Tom”. I almost don’t know where to go in this blog because we touched on everything from pantyhose to snot, education to movement, treatment to research and your cells to your environment.

He has taken a global systems thought process and applied it to movement and fascial bodywork. He’s learned from pioneers and has become one himself applying a tensegrity model to the body structure through acknowledgement of all systems, but particularly:

  • The nervous system,
  • The cirulatory system
  • The fascial system

These he singles these three out because they are found everywhere in the body. His focus is particularly the fascia and connective tissues and he shared pearls about our body transformations and the reasons they happen.

Beyond Anatomy Trains & Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI), Tom touched on Spatial Medicine concepts which made me wish we had more time! Unfortunately I had to reign him in due to time constraints.

He had some amazing advice:

  • For the layperson: Explore your movement in any way you can (and your kids)
  • For the practitioner: Learn about the fascia (it’s on the cutting edge of research)

LOH: John Veltheim

From the Innate to tapping and saliva in your belly-button… we covered it all! Then he called me a, “…seething bug bag.” Ummm… flattery will get you everywhere?! (~ Was that supposed to be his ‘inner voice’ ??)

BodyTalk System is really on the cutting-edge of medicine

I’m surprised that this interview is only about 75 minutes. John covered a lot about Bodytalk and most of Access and shared some ideas about the scope that his system can address. Although there wasn’t enough time to get into all of it, his system includes and integrates into Dynamic Systems Theory: PlantTalk, AnimalTalk, MindScapeBreakThrough.

Some Health issues he’s treated in the past include: cancer, food allergies, alcoholism, ADD, dehydration, dyslexia, Crohn’s and sprains. This seems to only touch the edge of the iceberg. BodyTalk doesn’t diagnose, and yet it looks for the source of the problem…

We went deep into the cells and talked about:

  • genetic markers through epigenetics
  • biophysics & quantum mechanics
  • heart neurons & electromagnetics

If you’re curious about Medical Intuition, you’ll want to check this out because he blends science with his understanding of Innate consciousness. You’ll also want to know why the tapping which is characteristic of a treatment is so important. If that weren’t enough, he also touches on the Principles of Manifestation!

Check out his video to learn how to balance the Cortices yourself! (scroll down when you are there) Show me how!

He called it a system not just for Health, but a system that you can use to run your business and your life!

LOH: Carole Friesen

If you want to attract more wealth, enhance your health and improve your relationships, you will be fascinated by this call. I found out that I’m sensitive “…like a Ferrari!” Varoom!

Facereading

Beyond all of Carole’s insights about facial features, the concept that I took away from this call is that understanding yourself is the key to your life. This doesn’t have to be a complicated, subjective, judgmental processs… you just have to look in the mirror.

Carole told us, ‘Your issues are in your tissues,‘ and she went on to describe your bone structure as your blueprint and the soft tissues are your experiences, all of which can be reshaped simply with awareness, breath work, posture & gait.

The approach is quite scientific. Each part of your face represents another aspect of yourself:

  • Forehead has to do with your thought processes: are you a thinker or a doer?
  • Eyes are the window to the soul and the different colors have special meaning
  • Your nose is your personality, and it keeps growing throughout your life
  • Your lips are sensual with the upper lip representing your feminine side and the lower lip, the masculine – and can you guess where your intuition is?
  • Cheeks are about ambition (her assessment is that in pursuing my ambitions, I will do it softly indicated by my plump cheeks)

Before & After

Another key point is that you need to be at home in your body to be Healthy! I find this to be a truly great statement. Carole gracefully weaves her knowledge of how our levels of consciousness affect our outside appearance, and although the outside is what we more typically notice, it is the inside where the real transformation occurs.

When the subconscious patterns are changed, the way you use your muscles changes, and you actually look different! Younger and more You! I’m amazed.

The results are visible as indicated by this before and after example Carole allowed me to use. It is phenomenal the changes you can see!

It is a self exploration that assists you in understanding yourself & others and you learn how to really use energy in your body to be the best you.

LOH: Mary D Nelson

Mary D Nelson is the first person to introduce stone massage to the world. Her story is inspired! She listened within and the result was a complete redirection of her career. What did she hear? “Use the stones!” This was the answer to her request for guidance.

LaStone Therapy

From listening in evolved this technique which is tailored to each client through their treatment plan for that day. The therapist uses both hot and cold stones in order to achieve a balance with the client and create a chemical response within their body systems. Balance is also in consideration of:

  • Mother Earth and Father Sky
  • The seasons
  • Associated emotions
  • The chakras

There is a sacred process for every contributing component. This includes sourcing out the stones to the introduction of the treatment. Mary gifted us with a wonderful meditative Journey each therapist is taught to enhance the experience of the client. Wow!

This is a not just for the spa, although it is incredibly popular in that arena, it is a serious hydrotherapy based technique, honoring the way temperature affects the body. This is critical for reasons of safety and each person’s unique health concerns. Major impacts include:

  • Lymphatics and blood flow promotion
  • Autonomic nervous system (relaxation)
  • Digestion & detoxification

Another important component to the treatment that Mary shared was the breath and true therapists who honor the process are called Stone Walkers and they are on a beautiful path.

Mary’s site is www.lastonetherapy.com. There is a free Q & A .pdf with stone photos for subscribers to www.layersofhealth.com.

LOH: Suzanne Scurlock-Durana

Suzanne started with Dr John Upledger from the very beginning of the Upledger Institute.

CranioSacral Therapy

This modality evolved from Cranial Osteopathy and through research the mechanics & biology were discovered where previously it had been described in terms of energy waves & fluid waves.

In addition to biology, a CranioSacral therapist learns how to dialogue with the body using the cranio rhythm and with a listening sense. The touch is very, very gentle and the aim is to bring your nervous system back into balance.

Suzanne told us that they work with the nervous system through the cranial bones specifically and can address anything ‘slow stress’ from:

  • falls to accidents
  • back surgery to migraine headaches
  • TMJ dysfunction to whiplash
  • autism to chronic illness

Most people can benefit from babies to elderly. Suzanne walked us through an appointment and told us about a technique that works like a reset button.

She put together free audios for LOH, so check out her website and look for our link! Thank you Suzanne, for ‘loving us up!’

LOH: Lauren Slade

This wasn’t just an interview, but also mini class on hand reflexology – complete with free .pdf handout (still available in the LOH cart for subscribers).

Reflexology

Lauren Slade is a remarkable person and a leader in her field. She bristled when I suggested that someone might think of Reflexology as a “footrub” because she wouldn’t even consider the scientific and deliberate approach of Reflexology with its long history, from thousands of years BC, to be even in the same ball park.

She walked us through different concepts:

  • Zone Theory
  • Tender points
  • Physical and Non-physical thoughts

Reflexology is stand alone as a therapy & can address almost any pathology including: blood sugar issues, phantom limb pain, sinus issues, heart issues, arthritis, depression, cancer… This is because it works systemically. Lauren’s philosophy on if it can help you is, “I don’t know, but I’m willing to give it a go if you are.”

We found out there are even strolling paths both inside and outside in different countries and cultures to support your health through the reflex points! I especially enjoyed her comparison of reflexology to computers and ‘rebooting your system.’

There are many ways to approach the reflex points:

  • Hand Reflexology & Fingernail Reflexology
  • Foot Reflexology & Ear Reflexology
  • Tibetan Reflexology (with a shoulder blade treatement)

The biggest thing I took away from this was the balancing effect and that is certainly what I experienced in participating in the mini treatment!

She recommended a couple of books available in my Amazon store:

  • Energy Healing Experiments by Gary Schwartz
  • Stories the Feet Can Tell, Stories the Feet Have Told by Eunice Ingham

LOH: Michael J Nixon-Livy

This Bowen Therapy is gentle and focuses on not just the skeletal structure, but the muscles as well and works to regulate the tensions.

Neurostructural Integration Technique (NST)

It is structurally oriented and can help:

  • back pain, knee pain, neck / shoulder pain
  • sporting injuries, auto injuries
  • digestion & respiration problems

Michael’s focus is in training professional health care providers such as Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Osteopaths, Massage Therapist, Accupuncutrist… (it is very complementary)

It has a characteristic rolling movement, PRI or proprioceptive rolling impulse,  to the technique and often the result for the client is a deep sense of relaxation and a boost of energy.

In describing the evolution of NST, he mentioned observing Dr Trevor Creed who was using a technique called Chiron. Since the link he’d given us was for a machine shop, I believe the information he wanted us to have can be found here: www.iachi.com/about_i.htm

Levels to NST include:

  • Basic: for learning to unlock the core system
  • Advanced: variation and different applications
  • Deep Cures: for getting to the cause

Thank you, Michael for giving us a good wake up morning routine on the call! Find out more at Michael’s website: www.nsthealth.com Enjoy the self care section of his book that he put on his front page at my request!

LOH: Hermann Muller

Sharing the transformative power of Psychosomatic Therapy is Hermann’s life work. He tours the world and communicates through the spark in his eyes, even when he is facilitating in a country where there is language barrier. There is no barrier in communication when it is done heart to heart.

Psychosomatic Therapy

When asked the meaning of the term, Hermann offered an answer no less than an approach to help you get in touch with the essence of your being so that you can fulfill your soul purpose on earth! That’s way more than a body modality!

He has three basic principles within his teachings:

  1. Focus
  2. Talent
  3. Structure

I was introduced to Hermann’s work when I volunteered to be a body for analysis in one of the classes in Calgary. The experience was an eye-opening experience of what, in this interview with him, is described as decoding what the body is revealing to you through shape, movement and form.

Beyond that, attention and appreciation are key concepts that result in happiness. The approach is scientific body analysis: from face to hands and head to toe. Objective tools are used:

  • Gait analysis &
  • plumbline evaluation
  • Before & after pictures

This demonstrates where the focus needs to be placed and why. Transformation can be seen even over the short time of a class.

There is a degree of self honor that, taken at a profound level, can provide the attention needed for transformation. To share a quote from Hermann,

“The more easily and fluently and comfortable and consciously we breathe is the greatest spiritual experience a soul can have in a human body.”

Based in Australia with global promoters and teachers of his work, Hermann’s reach is wide. Find more info here: www.aibmapt.com.au and www.learnfacereading.com

LOH: Marion Rosen

The LOH interview on was with her first student, Sara Webb and a recent graduate of Marion’s program, Cassie Scott. A free bonus audio on Rosen Movement, still offered for free in Layers of Health, was with Marion and Cassie.

The Rosen Method

Marion is a charming 95 year old woman who started out as a physical therapist who had a unique touch. Over time, this evolved into a 3 year program for others to learn how.

The Rosen Method is a touch. It isn’t forceful, invasive or agressive. It’s not a massage. It is best described as a receptive touch.

It started because Marion noticed that sometimes when she touched her patients, they would cry and they would feel better and seem to come more alive. This caused her to explore the psychosomatic connection.

  • Originally people came to her because they had physical pain
  • Later they came because they felt stuck in their life
  • Then they came in search of happiness

The answer was in the tension in their muscles. When asked what a Rosen pracititioner looks for, the simple answer is tension. Marion says it looks like armor. What is curious is that even with all of the different reasons someone might choose Rosen method, their focus really is just the tight muscles.

Evolving out of this touch is a very safe feeling which is always powerful, even for Marion herself who experienced a profound feeling of being loved ~ for the first time at the age of 70!

Marion, Sara and Cassie share their experiences from unique perspectives to really help the listener understand about this modality which has been described as not unlike a personal awakening.

I’m still looking for a Rosen Therapist in Calgary. Please reply if you are one or know of one. I’ll book in immediately!
